ELVs and Ospreys
Youth Pathways
Our aim is to get our youth sailors confident enough so that they can join in the club racing calendar.
- Active Club Sailors: Sail on Sunday afternoon races and mentoring.
- Ospreys: Build confidence to join club sessions through a race format.
- ELVS: From zero sailing experience to sailing a marked course.
Day Plan - Weather Dependent
- 12:30 - Meet for Briefing with Parents
- 13:00 - Set up boats
- 13:30 - ELVS on the Water
- 13:30 - Ospreys Briefing 1 (warm up)
- 14:00 - Ospreys Warm Up Sail
- 14:30 - ELVS off the water and Ospreys Briefing 2 (Osprey Race)
- 14:30 -ELVS Parents Supervise Water Play
- 15:30 - Ospreys Off water pack up
- 16:00 - Hot Chocolate and Debrief
Key Roles During Session
- Lead Coach (in Safety Boat 1) (Has radio)
- Safety Boat 1 Crew
- Safety Boat 2 Helm (Has radio)
- Safety Boat 2 Crew
- Beach Master (Coordinates the launching and retrieval onshore, also calls emergency services if required) (Has radio)
- Shore Crew (Multiple people launching and retrieving boats)
Expectation of Parents
- We are all responsible to make the day work well and help where we can, to do this:
- Parents to stay on site
- Parents to help volunteer with:
- Set up and pack away
- Supervision of children when playing in water
- MAKING HOT CHOCOLATE
- Help on the safety boat
- Help getting boats on and off the water
- No posting of images or videos of children other than your own to social media unless permission of all parents is
How we communicate
If you want your kids to sail message Malcolm, after this communication will follow this pattern:
- Join WhatsApp group.
- The Thursday before the session a request will be sent on who is looking to sail, please respond to this WhatsApp message.
- Any cancellations of session will be sent to this group.
